Oversubscribed seed round for machineMD 

MedTech startup machineMD from the Sitem StartUp Club (SSC) convinced investors and secured CHF 3.2 million - oversubscribing their seed round by 50%. The main investor is the Guido Fluri Foundation - Leading Partner of the SSC's Investor Club - which is committed to the fight against brain tumors. machineMD is developing a medical device for the early diagnosis of neurological disorders including brain tumors via neuro-ophthalmic examinations.

Welcome@machineMD: Roland Peer - Senior Requirements Engineer - experienced IT business engineer and business analyst

At the beginning of July, machineMD had the pleasure to welcome Roland Peer to the team. As requirements engineer, he will gather and document the requirements for the continued software development and coordinate the programming as a product owner. In a first step, he will finalize the requirements for the product prototype that will be ready early next year.

On June 30, machineMD was on the podium receiving a trophy for "Best Startup Team of the Year – powered by BEKB" at the Bern Center for Innovation and Digitalization, ZID. machineMD’s amazing team convinced the jury and received the award at the Superpower Party in Bernapark. Phil Norris has just joined machineMD as Head of Commercial Strategy. He looks towards the launch of the NeurOphthalmoscope by planning how machineMD can best provide value to Neurologists and Ophthalmologists through building a customer-centric commercial team.

Professor Mathias Abegg, MD, is a neuro-ophthalmologist. He is the medical director of machineMD. In his everyday medical work, he deals with eye movement disorders such as strabismus. In addition, he has been doing basic research on eye movements for many years and uses eye tracking and pupil tracking for this. This is how the idea came about to use this technology for medical issues. We talked to him about the advantages of the neurophthalmoscope, the first results of the research prototypes and further milestones.‍

Successful cooperation with CSEM

In November 2021, machineMD and CSEM Neuchâtel launched their joint Innosuisse project, which will last 1.5 years. CSEM is a Swiss private, non-profit research and technology organization with +35 years of Deep Tech development and transfer to industry. CSEM is leveraging its extensive knowledge, IP and expertise in image processing and algorithmic development to the diagnostic system which machineMD is developing. The first results of the cooperation are promising. Both partners have committed to an agile working style, which is proving to be a benefit for the project.
