This year, for the first time, the Bern Center for Innovation and Digitalization awarded three prizes that recognitize particularly powerful teams and entrepreneurs: The 26-member jury of experts selected the "Best Startup Team of the Year - powered by BEKB" from over 60 startups. The top spot was awarded to Ender Diagnostics and their timely solution for rapid PCR-based tests, and machineMD was elated to be on the podium as the runner up.

"In the Bern, Solothurn, Fribourg region, a lot is happening in terms of startups and innovation. The ecosystem is working. Our winning teams are good examples of this," explained Michael Sauter, CEO at the Centre for Innovation and Digitalisation (ZID). For machineMD, the award is a great honor and a confirmation that the team is on the right track to fulfil their mission to reduce suffering through earlier diagnosis of brain diseases.

machineMD is developing a novel diagnostic device that enables a complete, standardized neuro-ophthalmological examination. The goal is to make the diagnostic quality of a highly qualified specialist accessible to every doctor, optometrist and optician everywhere in the world, thus reaching patients who today do not have access to specialists. This will enable an earlier detection of diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis or brain tumors.
