Ocular Alignment

neos® ocular alignment provides an objective, automated alternate cover test across nine gaze positions, presenting deviations in a Hess-style plot and providing prism diopter measurements

AUTOMATED EXAMINATION

Alternate cover test

A UFO stimulus is presented in nine gaze positions, simulated at far distance (>100m / 300 ft).

The Ocular Alignment test evaluates the coordination between the eyes by presenting the gaze direction stimulus alternately to each eye, mimicking the alternate cover test.

MEASUREMENTS AT A GLANCE

neos® report

Presents deviations in Hess-style plot

Prism diopter measurements in 9 positions

The plots show ocular alignment during an automated alternate cover test across nine gaze positions (±10°). Eye position is quantified for the fixating and covered eye, allowing objective assessment of ocular alignment and gaze-dependent deviations.

Report example: healthy

In a normal response, the eyes are aligned with the targets in all gaze positions, with minimal deviation between the fixating and covered eye, as a result of intact extraocular muscle function.
neos ocular alignment CNIV

Report example: Trochlear Nerve (CN IV) Palsy

In this patient, a vertical misalignment is observed that increases in downgaze, with the left eye positioned higher relative to the right. This gaze dependent vertical deviation is consistent with impaired function of the superior oblique muscle, as seen in trochlear nerve palsy.
